[S33] Letter from Henry Grawrock (33 Woodlawn St, Blue Point, NY 11715) to David Grawrock, 24 Jul 1980; folder 2000.0122 David Grawrock records (8285 SW 184th Ave, Aloha, Washington County, Oregon, USA). Dear David and Sherrill, Dora and I finally got around to gather the information of your family. We have been putting everything off 'till after the wedding. Well the wedding is over and every thing was fine so no more excuses. I'll jult list the facts I think are important without regard for style or form, O.K.. I have inclosed copies of the notice in the local paper of Poppy's death; Death Certificat of his Father; Nanny's Birth Certificate; Nanny's and Poppy's Marriage Certificate; Uncle Chris's birth certificate; and a copy of a picture of your great-grandfather from a Trade paper of the time. Poppy had a younger brother John, who died about 30 years ago. He also had three sisters, Margarethe the oldes of the family died about ten years ago, Popy was the next oldest, then Ruth who died in the late 20s, the youngest sister Edithe lives in Conn.. The family came to this country about 1911 although Poppy was going to sea at that time so he didn't come for a few years. Mom or Nanny as we called her had a younger sister and brother, Elizabeth and Christopher. Both have passed away, Chris in the early 30's and Aunt Biddy about 14 years ago. Mom's parents came to this country and Mom was born. They then returned to England where Uncle Chris was born. His brith certificate shows that but also shows his fathers occupation. Some time after that they returned to this country to stay. In this country Grand-father Herron was a carpenter and Uncle Chris became a pattern maker in a marble quarry. He made patterns for many of the marble structures in Washington, D.C. Before coming to this country Poppy's father made kerosene engines for fishing boats. Poppy has told me of delivering these boats to the North coast of Norway during the summer with his father, The Land of the Mid-Night Sun. After finishing school Poppy served his Aprenticeship to a tool maker. He then went to sea for a few years and then came to this country to join his parents. His first job in this country was for American Machine and Foundry - A M F - when it was just a machine shop. Hope this helps you and if there is any thing more you would like to know don't hesitate to ask. Love from all in our family to all in your family. Sorry we took so long to answer your letter. Next time we will be more prompt. With all our love, Uncle Henry (signature).
