He also bought the lease of the 'Globe Hotel', Hindley St, Aug 5th 1878, and was the owner of the 'Port Admiral ' Hotel, where his first child was born. William was known for establishing the Fulham Park Horse Stud in 1874, approx 300 acres of good land with th River Torrens flowing through it. A newspaper article describes him returning to South Australia from overseas with top blood stock. The principal sire at the stud was a champion thoroughbred ' Richmond' which won many top races with Tommy Hales as jockey.
